Houseplants to bring joy to your home

houseplants

I posted on Instagram the other day about houseplants being my happiness in 2020. Our leafy friends bring me so much joy and I love looking after them as we don’t have a pet! The post met one negative comment referring to houseplants as ‘non-essential’ shopping during lockdown times (our supermarket for our essential food shop also supplies houseplants). Regardless, I considered that maybe everyone doesn’t have access to plants at this time. So I thought how I could turn this into a positive, and spread the joy of houseplants. I have partnered with the lovely team at Patch to giveaway a £50 voucher. Patch can deliver houseplants safely to your doorstep. All you have to do to enter is go to this Instagram post and tag someone who you think is deserving of the voucher with a reason why ❤️ (UK ONLY).

***UPDATE: GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED***

Having a lush, leafy environment at home has been been a real mood lifter during the last few weeks of quarantine. Considering neither Zack or I are particularly green-fingered, we haven’t had any plant casualties so far. Our collection is realatively easy to care for, and it is always obvious to tell when they need a little TLC because the leaves droop.

In terms of care, I water our plants around once a week. I always feel the soil first to check if they need it, if it feels moist at the top it probably doesn’t need watered. I move the plants to the sink and water them until water runs out the bottom of the pot, then I let it drain properly before I put them back in their pots. While they are in the sink I mist the leaves with water from an old face spritz bottle I have re-filled. When placing them in the house, I am careful to check wether they are plants that prefer direct or indirect sunlight when I consider where their home is going to be.
