A Cosy Winters Getaway

Looking for a cosy winter getaway without leaving the city? You need look no further than the gorgeous Apex Waterloo Place Hotel.

Zack and I had a ridiculously busy November in the run up to Christmas so we took the time to check in and chill out. Appropriately timed with National Sleep In Day and the clocks going back by one hour, we ordered breakfast in our newly-refurbished Georgian suite so the extra hour in bed did not go to waste.
Apex Waterloo is located a short (and beautiful) walk from Waverley Train Station, passing some of Edinburgh’s most famous sights on the way. Ending at the stunning Georgian building that houses Apex Waterloo. It is the perfect location for a staycation like us or a little night away to explore Edinburgh.

LUXURIOUS LITTLE TOUCHES

Apex Hotels

We checked in to our room for the evening which was a stunning suite. The suite certainly felt like a home from home. Despite the high ceilings and amount of space, the rooms all felt cosy with so many lovely touches of comfort. Robes and slippers, cosy couches, Elemis toiletries including a pillow spray. I loved that both levels had smart TVs so you could chose if you wanted to relax in the cosy comfort of the bedroom or the luxurious lounge space downstairs.

Situated in the downstairs half of the duplex is a gorgeous lounge area that has views of the top of Princes St. It is the perfect spot for people watching (one of my favourite activities). Especially when you can do it from the comfort of your own home with a hot drink in hand, even if it is only home for one night.

You know that feeling when you have some free time in the morning; you wake up, make a cup of tea and watch the world go by outside the window for a few precious moments. Well the Apex is the perfect place to take one of those special moments – I could have sipped on a hot drink and watched the world go by below all day.

DINNER

We had dinner served in the comfort of our suite while having a movie night.
(With prosecco of course!)

It was brought to the room with a dining table which meant it felt a little bit more special than room service in front of the TV. There is something lovely about sharing a candle lit private dinner in your room, it added a little bit of romance to the evening.
We rounded the evening up with a movie in bed and I of course ended the night with a glass of fizz in the bath.

Breakfast in Bed

Apex Hotels

Breakfast is always one of my favourite parts of a hotel stay, and the Apex did not disappoint. We shared the most delicious spread of fresh fruit, pastries and eggs and salmon from the comfort of our room that was filled with gorgeous natural light at that time in the morning. Enjoying all of this from your room is most definitely chill-out goals.

And yes, I sipped my morning coffee while people watching out the window.

SPA

We finished our stay with a little spa time. Complimentary use of leisure facilities is included with your room, so you are welcome to pop down and use the sauna, steam room & pool at any time. But the star of the show for me was most definitely PURE Spa. Zack and I shared the most amazing couples massage, it was a great way to finish a relaxing weekend. We each had a hot stone massage in the couples therapy room. This was one of the best massages I have ever had and I would highly recommend booking in if you are visiting.

SIGHTSEEING

If your only interest isn’t being cosy for the weekend, you have the perfect sightseeing spot right on your doorstep at Apex Waterloo. Calton Hill ( be prepared – it is a steep hill) is right behind the hotel and gives stunning views of the city and beyond.
